Central Coast BJJ Open was a great way to start the week! Everyone enjoyed this great competition organized by Tiago Ferreira, who is part of our Gracie Humaita family. And as always, our Gracie Sydney Brazilian Jiu Jitsu (BJJ) Team did great.
We would like to congratulate specially our members:
Sarah and Lee, that won 1st and 2nd in Gi Absolute Division.
Sami, coming second on the Super Fight.
Jordan, who was the CHAMPION of under 15yo Absolute Division.
Kianoa, how had to fight in the 40kg division, two weights above his, but still got GOLD medal.
We couldn`t be prouder of them!
If you want to be a champion as well come train with us at Gracie Sydney Brazilian Jiu Jitsu (BJJ)!
For the last few weeks a couple of the lovely mums whose kids train BJJ at Gracie Sydney Jiu Jitsu have started to take Jiu Jitsu and Self Defense classes at the Academy with Coach Giorgio after dropping their kids at school. The idea seemed so interested that more mums joined them and they became THE BJJ MUMS!
The BJJ mums are loving the experience of not only learning such a great martial art as Brazilian Jiu Jitsu and how to defend themselves, but also building self confidence, losing weight, relieving their stress and improving their sleep and work routine.
Julie Starr, the woman who actually started the program by taking private classes with Coach Giorgio Rojas and who supported other mothers to join her, said:
“There is a great bond between us BJJ mums and we all support and encourage each other in class. After a few years of health challenges, I am surprised at how fast my strength has returned. There were days I struggled to walk and now I’m giving my son Athan piggy backs upstairs. I am grateful to Coach Giorgio for the movement and self deference techniques he has taught us and for his compassion. I love the encouragement from the other trainers and I’m super grateful to Gracie for Sydney for our Mum’s class. I never expected BJJ to have this big an impact on my life. Now, I count down the days to the next class!”
There are five women so far and this number just seems to keep growing. So we have decided to open for every woman who wants to learn Self Defense and Jiu Jitsu.
Gracie Self Defense for Women classes are on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 9:30 to 10:15am. Please contact us for more information about the classes.

Due to the popular demand Gracie Humaita Alexandria is proud to announce that we will be adding extra Jiu Jitsu classes for teens.
The classes will take place on Wednesdays and Fridays at 4:30 on Mat 2 and everybody over 11 years old is welcome to participate.
The Gracie teens program will allow us to tailor the classes to the teens needs and give them more specific sport Jiu Jitsu and Self Defence techniques to their age groups.
Members are welcome to bring their friends during the whole school holidays to the Teens and the Kids program.
We hope you guys attend next week and we can build up a great team!
BJJ Fundamentals is a successful Gracie Humaita Program offered at Gracie Sydney and at Gracie Smeaton Grange. The new students have developed greatly since Professor Alex Prates started to manage and teach the Program a year ago. The classes are focused in standing and ground self-defense techniques introduced in a fun, safe, and cooperative environment. You can start the program at any time without previous experience and, since safety is our number one concern, there is no competitive sparring in this program only drilling the studied techniques during the class. That’s what makes the Fundamentals Program different to the Beginners Program. In the Beginners Program we will reinforce what was learned into the Fundamentals, adding some new techniques and starting a competitive and guided sparring, preparing our students to the first belt grading, the Blue Belt.
From this week the Fundamentals classes will be on also on Fridays at 6 pm. If you are new to Jiu Jitsu, we invite you to come to a Introductory class at 5:30 pm followed by Fundamentals. This is the first step to be introduced to BJJ and to experience what the Program is about, beside from meeting our instructors, the team and check it out the Academy. To book a free class any day of the week please click here . We wish everyone a great week and we see you on the mats.
