For the last few weeks a couple of the lovely mums whose kids train BJJ at Gracie Sydney Jiu Jitsu have started to take Jiu Jitsu and Self Defense classes at the Academy with Coach Giorgio after dropping their kids at school. The idea seemed so interested that more mums joined them and they became THE BJJ MUMS!

The BJJ mums are loving the experience of not only learning such a great martial art as Brazilian Jiu Jitsu and how to defend themselves, but also building self confidence,  losing weight, relieving their stress and improving their sleep and work routine.

Julie Starr, the woman who actually started the program by taking private classes with Coach Giorgio Rojas and who supported other mothers to join her, said:

“There is a great bond between us BJJ mums and we all support and encourage each other in class. After a few years of health challenges, I am surprised at how fast my strength has returned. There were days I struggled to walk and now I’m giving my son Athan piggy backs upstairs. I am grateful to Coach Giorgio for the movement and self deference techniques he has taught us and for his compassion. I love the encouragement from the other trainers and I’m super grateful to Gracie for Sydney for our Mum’s class. I never expected BJJ to have this big an impact on my life. Now, I count down the days to the next class!”

There are five women so far and this number just seems to keep growing. So we have decided to open for every woman who wants to learn Self Defense and Jiu Jitsu.

Gracie Self Defense for Women classes are on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 9:30 to 10:15am. Please contact us for more information about the classes.
