Gracie Sydney hosts Women's Roll Call FREE open mat.
The Gracie Sydney Women’s team is proud to announce it will be hosting the next edition of Women’s Roll Call Open Mat on December 15th, 2013 from 11am-1pm.
As people in the community may know, The Legacy Martial Arts team suffered the terrible loss of their Chippendale gym due to fire back in September. Their team is still training and rebuilding and we hope to help them continue by raising funds at this Women's Only Open Mat event.
Women's Roll Call is a for women by women local community project of Brazilian Jiu Jitsu (BJJ) practitioners who come together to train, strengthen, and deepen our connection to the art and each other. All women and girls are welcome to attend regardless of age, affiliation, or experience. No fee to attend but a suggested donation of $10-15 towards the Legacy Fundraiser is much appreciated. Bring yourselves and be ready to met other women in the community and enjoy some Jiu Jitsu time together!
We will have a light warm up, the Gracie Sydney Women will show a few techniques, and then open mat time for drilling, rolling, or asking questions. Light refreshments will be provided. Entry To Gracie Sydney is off of Shirley St.

The growth of the Grappling World in Australia
Gracie Humaita Australia Brazilian Jiu Jitsu (BJJ) Academy is amazed with the speed that the grappling sports are growing down under.
This weekend just past, we had the GRAPPLERS GOLD 2013 TOURNAMENT in which was given a ounce of solid 99.99% pure gold to the winner.
A 32 person Tournament eliminator, with NO Belt and NO Weight Division, open for Men and Women, held at the Sydney Olympic Park in Homebush.
Congratulation to this great initiative to promote the sport. The Winner took home an ounce of Pure Gold worth around the $1400 mark. The tournament was IBJJF NO GI rules and it made it a great opportunity for the Jiu Jitsu practitioners to take the prize home.
We hope that the year to come will bring lots of Tournaments giving Money prizes to the winners that work really hard for the goals.
JIU JITSU HISTORY SERIES - THE ORIGIN OF JIU JITSU
Hi Gracie Humaita Brazilian Jiu Jitsu (BJJ) members and supporters,
From today, every week will be posted a bit of the history of Jiu Jitsu, Gracie Jiu Jitsu and the Gracie family stories, this way you all will be more familiarized with what you practice. ENJOY!!!
THE ORIGIN OF JIU JITSU
"As to the origin and native land of Ju Jutsu, there are several opinions, but they are found to be mere assumptions based on narratives relating to the founding of certain schools, or some incidental records or illustrations found in the ancient manuscripts not only in Japan but in China, Persia, Germany, and Egypt. There is no record by which the origins of Ju Jutsu can be definitely established. It would, however, be rational to assume that ever since the creation, with the instinct of self-preservation, man has had to fight for existence, and was inspired to develop an art or skill to implement the body mechanism for this purpose. In such efforts, the development may have taken various courses according to the condition of life or tribal circumstance, but the object and mechanics of the body being common, the results could not have been so very different from each other. No doubt this is the reason for finding records relating to the practice of arts similar to Ju Jutsu in various parts of the world, and also for the lack of records of its origins."
